FAQ Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions owners ask.
Profit, exit planning, fractional COO work, and what it is actually like to work with us.
01
Getting started
Who do you work with?
Owners of established trades, manufacturing, distribution and industrial services companies with roughly $2M to $10M in annual revenue and one to three owners. Clients are across the Pacific Northwest, including Washington and Oregon, and Western Canada, including British Columbia and Alberta.
What happens on a Discovery Call?
It is a conversation about where your business is today and where you want it to go. Together we decide whether a next step, usually a profit and value assessment, makes sense for you.
Where should I start: profit or exit planning?
Usually with profit. Profit is what you live on today, and because businesses are typically valued as a multiple of earnings, it is also what future buyers pay for tomorrow. Many owners work on both at once.
Is there a smaller way to start?
Yes. Flash Coaching starts with a one-hour onboarding session to identify your biggest profit opportunities, followed by twelve months of short 15-minute strategy sessions.
Do you work with US companies?
Yes. We work with owners in Washington, Oregon and across the Pacific Northwest, as well as British Columbia and Alberta, in person and by video.
02
Profit
What does a profit assessment look at?
Pricing, marketing effectiveness, how well leads and quotes convert, customer value and repeat business, operational efficiency and costs. The goal is to find the handful of changes with the biggest dollar impact.
Why start with profit instead of preparing to sell?
Because profit is what you live on today and what future buyers pay for tomorrow. Businesses are usually valued as a multiple of earnings, so raising profit improves your income now and the price later.
03
Exit planning and value
What is the Exit Acceleration program?
It is the structured core of our exit planning work. We review the business the way future buyers will across six readiness gaps: owner dependence, financial documentation, customer concentration, recurring revenue, management depth and operational systems, then build a roadmap to close them before you go to market.
When should I start preparing to sell my business?
Ideally two or three years before you plan to sell. That gives you time to strengthen your team, spread out your customer base, build repeat revenue and tidy up the financials. Starting later still helps, but there is less you can change.
Do I have to be planning to sell?
No. The same work that makes a business sellable also makes it more profitable and less demanding of your time. You get your evenings and weekends back now, and keep the option to sell whenever you choose.
What do future buyers pay more for?
Lower risk and predictable cash flow. The Value Builder System measures eight drivers, including financial performance, growth potential, recurring revenue, customer satisfaction and how the business performs when the owner steps away. Its published data shows businesses scoring 80 or higher receive offers 71% higher than average.
How is this different from hiring a business broker?
A broker's job is to find a buyer and sell the business. This work usually starts earlier, raising the value of the business first, so that when you do sell, with or without a broker, the price reflects what you built.
04
